Patient Information Guidelines for COVID 19 Vaccines

Who should NOT get the vaccine?

-Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) upon receiving the first series of the COVID vaccine.

-Immediate allergic reaction to a previous dose of COVID vaccine or any of its components.

-Immediate reaction (any severity) to polysorbate.

Who should get the COVID vaccine?

-History of allergies that is unrelated to components of COVID vaccine.

Examples: allergy to oral medication, history of allergies to food, pet, insect, latex, environmental allergies, antibiotics, etc.

*30 minute observation period for those with personal history of anaphylaxis not related to components of COVID-19 vaccine.

*15 minute observation period for all other persons.

What are the components of the COVID vaccine?

-Pfizer: mRNA, lipids ((4-hydroxybutyl)azanediyl)bis(hexane-6,1-diyl)bis(2-hexyldecanoate), 2 [(polyethylene glycol)-2000]-N,N-ditetradecylacetamide, 1,2-Distearoyl-sn-glycero-3- phosphocholine, and cholesterol), potassium chloride, monobasic potassium phosphate, sodium chloride, dibasic sodium phosphate dihydrate, and sucrose

-Moderna: messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA), lipids (SM-102, polyethylene glycol [PEG] 2000 dimyristoyl glycerol [DMG], cholesterol, and 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine [DSPC]), tromethamine, tromethamine hydrochloride, acetic acid, sodium acetate, and sucrose.
